Capital BrassWorks is delighted to announce the release of Brass Britannia: English Music for Brass. The CD offers a musical survey of English music from the renaissance to the present day, with its strong folk song origins well represented on several tracks. After a stirring opening, provided by the Earle of Oxford's March, Greensleeves, The Foggy Foggy May and The Bluebird evoke the English choral tradition. Britten's rarely recorded Saint Edmundsbury Fanfare is magnificently performed by the CBW trumpets. Then three major works for large brass ensemble by Gordon Langford, Derek Bourgeois and Simon Wills provide fine examples of the kind of original and virtuosic brass writing inspired by the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble. The CD closes with a brassy and irreverent version of Penny Lane in an arrangement by CBW co-founder, Colin Traquair. Something old, something new, something borrowed, and even something blue!

This recording is guaranteed to please brass fans of all ages!
